01About the project
Google Warming is a research project visualising earth environments and studying the impact of Google Earth data structures upon the presentation of ecological destruction and disruption via resource extraction sites.
It gathers the orbital footprints of hundreds of mines, power plants, refineries, industrial complexes, settlements, and waste grounds, then arranges them so the connections between distant landscapes — and the supply chains that bind them — become legible at a glance.
02The team
Professor and Head of the School of Design at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. He originated Google Warming — beginning with his research on Google Earth as “eco-machinima” — applying a design-led study of software and visual culture to make large-scale environmental degradation visible.
